Goodness of Exemplar is a conventional approximation of the level of representation a member has for it's superordinate category.

A concept can be thought of as represented by an ideal exemplar where membership and centrality of other items can be defined in terms of their similarity to this prototype

GOE significance in experiments enhanced by

i) Frequency of mention - Higher GOE scores are strongly correlated with frequency a concept is presented

ii) Order of learning - Prototypical members of category (high GOE) are generally learned before peripheral members

iii) Family Resembelence - Higher GOE is correlated with number of shared features with other members

iv) Verification Speed - GOE asessments are faster for members with a higher GOE

v) Priming - After seeing semantically related words, response speeds are faster items with a higher GOE
